Atomic, The Winter Sports Division of Amer Group Plc. has acquired the Volant brand from Huffy Corporation. Under the terms of the agreement signed Monday, Atomic will acquire all patents, trademarks and intellectual property as well as the manufacturing equipment and inventory related to Volant.
One of the key patents is the steel technology which is exclusively used in the Volant skis.
Sales of Volant brand in 2003 are expected to be in the region of 4 Million Euros.
“The Volant brand will strengthen our position as a leading ski manufacturer especially in USA and Canada but also in other high-end markets like Switzerland”, says Dr. Michael Schineis, President of Atomic.
Commenting on the sale, Don Graber, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said, “Volant is a world class ski brand which requires specialty ski distribution and a dedicated technical sales and marketing support ski team. Volant(R) does not align itself well with Huffy's strategic category and distribution strategies. We believe that Huffy is better served today by focusing its resources on continuing to build our business and profitability of other brands in our portfolio. Atomic, which has manufactured Volant(R) skis for Huffy in Altenmark, Austria is a major player in the ski market and specialty channels. We are pleased that Atomic has recognized the value of the brand and has the expertise and distribution to continue to make Volant(R) skis available to discriminating skiers all over the world.”
