Amer Sports has decided to keep France-based bicycle component unit Mavic. Amer had announced in September it was mulling “strategic alternatives” with respect to Mavic.
“Amer Sports has during the last months evaluated several different options and has now reached the conclusion that a divestment of this business would not be in the shareholders' best interest,” said the Finnish sports equipment maker. “Instead Amer Sports will concentrate its efforts on further developing its cycling business.”
In it announcement on Sept. 8, Amer had said it was “considering strategic alternatives to focus its business portfolio more towards categories where it believes it has the best long-term opportunities.”
Explaining its move to seek to divest Mavic, Amer President and CEO Roger Talermo noted that at the time that in a particular category, “you don't need to be number one, but you need to be within the three best and you need to have a target to be at least the most profitable one.”
