Altra will launch a low-drop road shoe, the AltraFWD Experience, expanding its product offering with a “new running experience” from the brand on October 3.
“The AltraFWD Experience is all about brand expansion, product evolution and continuing to create shoes that work for more and more runners,” said Altra Co-founder Brian Beckstead. “Since the start, we’ve been all about creating what people need and sought to build shoes that work with your body from road to trail. We’ll never stop catering towards the Altra loyalists that are all about zero-drop, but we are super excited to expand our line-up and create a low-drop shoe that helps make Altra accessible to more runners – especially those that haven’t wanted to take the full leap into zero-drop.”
Made as a performance-forward lightweight shoe, the AltraFWD Experience offers runners more “run more” with an engineered upper and spacious toe box positioned on Altra’s Standard Footshape Fit. The shoe’s rocker shape geometry encourages “efficient toe-off,” and a 4mm low drop allows for a “smooth and quick roll through any stride.” The neutral stack heights (men’s 32-28mm and women’s 30-26mm) combined with lightweight, compression molded foam creates “an effortless-performance ride for all runners.”
“I believe there are a lot of benefits to rotating in a 4mm drop shoe that complement the use of zero-drop shoes,” said Altra Elite Athlete and product tester Cal Neff. “Biomechanically, the 4mm AltraFWD Experience will allow for an efficient running form and forward-propelling stance, especially as fatigue sets in.”
The AltraFWD Experience launches a new category for the brand. With this shoe, Altra “seeks to bridge a gap and create a shoe for all runners looking for Altra’s signature natural fit with an effortless ride experience.”
The AltraFWD Experience will be available at altrarunning.com starting October 3, 2023, and at select retailers. The shoe is available in four colorways for men and women. The weight of the shoe is 8.5 oz (men) and 7.1 oz (women). For more product information, go here.
