Adidas said it reached an agreement to replace Nike as the outfitter of Rutgers University. The multi-year partnership makes Adidas the official athletic footwear, apparel and accessory brand of the Scarlet Knights.
Nike’s five-year deal with Rutgers expires on June 30.
“Everyone here at Rutgers is excited to be partnering with Adidas,” said Pat Hobbs, Rutgers director of athletics. “Our coaches and students know they will be getting outstanding apparel and equipment with which to compete. As important, Adidas will bring unmatched service to our programs. We look forward to celebrating much success together, both on and off the field.”
The multi-year agreement begins on July 1, 2017. With the new all-school deal, Adidas will become the official athletic footwear, apparel, and accessory brand for Rutgers University through the 2023-24 athletic season.
“We’re really excited about the future of athletics at Rutgers and we’re honored to welcome the Scarlet Knights into the Adidas family,” said Jim Murphy, director of NCAA Sports Marketing at Adidas America. “We’re going to bring our most innovative and high-performance products, along with our creativity and collaborative efforts to help Rutgers deliver on their vision for the future of Scarlet Knights sports.”
Adidas will outfit all 24 Rutgers University athletic teams, including new strategic uniforms for the football and basketball teams. Additionally, Rutgers will receive Adidas’ product & marketing expertise and the two will collaborate on marketing opportunities and the development and enhancement of the licensed retail landscape on campus.
