adidas and the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) have entered a long-term partnership that will last until 2014. The agreement will become effective on January 10, 2007 and will see adidas supply all national teams of the FMF. Since 2003, Nike had filled the role that adidas will now take over. Reports in Mexican newspapers say the transfer came as a result of a better offer from the German manufacturer.

The big three in the soccer world, adidas, Nike, and Puma, have been fighting for mind and market share for several years. With this agreement, adidas has taken one more step forward in its attempt to dominate the market. According to data compiled by SportScanINFO, over the last year adidas’ percentage share of soccer equipment sales in the U.S. stores reporting to SSI has increased in the mid-single-digits, while Nike’s has decreased in the low-singles over the same period for those reporting retailers, which does not include soccer specialty.
