Sally Jewell will keynote the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) Industry Breakfast at Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake City on July 27 at the Marriott City Creek at 7:00 a.m.
Jewell will urge the outdoor industry to use its influence to drive smart policy that supports public lands and their importance to outdoor recreation and economic opportunity. As Secretary of the Interior from April 2013 through January 2017, Secretary Jewell oversaw the Interior Department which has a budget of $12 billion, employs 70,000 people, and acts as steward for 20 percent of the nation’s land. During her four years serving the country, Secretary Jewell championed balanced stewardship of public lands, supporting access for all Americans, with a priority on connecting young people with the great outdoors.
“America’s public lands—like Yosemite, the Statue of Liberty, Bears Ears National Monument, and more—each tell a unique story and help protect and honor our nation’s natural, cultural and historic heritage,” said Jewell. “The outdoor industry depends on our nation’s public lands and waters, and I am proud to see leaders help policymakers understand the profound significance of these places to our economy and the health of our nation.”
“Public lands are the very foundation of the outdoor industry’s massive outdoor recreation economy, which employs more than 7.6 million Americans and generates more than $887 billion in consumer spending,” said Amy Roberts, OIA executive director. “Secretary Jewell brings incredible experience and perspective to help guide the industry as we collaborate to protect the lands we love.”
In addition to Sally Jewell, the OIA Industry Breakfast will feature:
- Montana Governor Steve Bullock: Governor Bullock will share how the outdoor recreation economy supports healthy communities and economies in the state of Montana.
- Alex Honnold and Cedar Wright: With humor and humility, The North Face athletes will share their experiences and adventures on some of America’s most beautiful landscapes and bring to life why they advocate strongly for public lands.
The breakfast will be on July 26, 2017 at the Downtown Marriott at City Creek in the Ballroom starting at 7:00 a.m. It will be live broadcast by Brandlive. Click here to learn more and register for the Brandlive broadcast.
