Weed is getting its day in the weight room as a “cannabis gym” is opening in San Fransisco, CA – but is it a good idea to work out while high?

Jim McAlpine’s Power Plant Fitness is challenging the gym-rat status quo with a more relaxed version. Power Plant’s website states that the company wants to shake up the stereotype of the lazy stoner.
According to the Medical Daily website, “Studies on the effects of cannabis on athletes are limited. Smoking weed can damage your lungs, but less so than cigarettes. At the same time, smoking pot has been shown to work as a bronchodilator, helping to ease exercise-induced shortness of breath and possibly offering a treatment for asthma.”
About half of the country has legalized medical marijuana and several more states are thinking about doing the same. Cannabis for recreational use is legal in Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.
When it opens in May, Power Plant will offer “cannabis performance assessments, weed-assisted fitness plans, and Power Plant’s own line of edibles.”
