ViewRanger, an outdoor discovery app, unveiled its latest partnership with tech giant Casio, as the two team up for a new outdoor smartwatch, shown at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this weekend.

ViewRanger is hoping the smartwatch can reinforce the app’s position as a leader in the outdoor wearable space.

Casio’s latest Android Wear watch improves on its predecessor the WSD-F10, which also featured ViewRanger integration, by adding new features specifically designed for outdoor enthusiasts, such as GPS functionality and the ability to display color maps.

Shunji Minami, Casio general manager of smartwatch development, said, “Casio and ViewRanger share the same vision of enhancing people’s outdoor experiences. The ViewRanger app has a strong community of explorers and rich route guide content that creates many memorable adventures. The combination of ViewRanger and Casio will create deeper and more enjoyable outdoor experiences for people all around the world.”

ViewRanger uses the watch’s built-in GPS chip, altimeter and barometric sensor to provide trip stats such as distance, speed, altitude, GPS location, compass direction and bearings.

ViewRanger Marketing Director Kris Wagner added, “Our ongoing partnership with Casio is a sign of ViewRanger’s commitment to the wearable market, and we’re delighted to once again be launch partners with such a prestigious watch that’s designed specifically for outdoor enthusiasts.”
