Soles4Souls, a not-for-profit global social enterprise committed to fighting poverty through the collection and distribution of shoes and clothing, issued a special call to action for the donation of shoes for hurricane victims in Haiti – a call answered by Spenco Footwear, a worldwide provider of shoes, sandals and slippers based in the U.S.

“Imagine facing the worst natural disaster your country has ever seen with lives lost, roads and homes torn apart, and disease spreading. Now imagine facing that disaster with bare feet,” said Pattie Graben, director of corporate development at Soles4Souls, a not-for-profit global social enterprise committed to fighting poverty through the collection and distribution of shoes and clothing.

Spenco Footwear shipped 1,000 pairs of new men’s and women’s sandals and shoes on October 12 to a Soles4Souls distribution center in Texas.

“When we see a tragedy causing suffering to the degree we’ve seen in Haiti, most of us wonder if there is anything we can do to help,” said Jeff Antonioli, vice president of sales and marketing for Spenco Footwear. “Hurricane victims need shoes, and if we can help 1,000 of those victims, we are happy to provide them some relief.”

Soles4Souls advances its anti-poverty mission by collecting new and used shoes and clothes from individuals, schools, faith-based institutions, civic organizations and corporate partners, then distributing those shoes and clothes both via direct donations to people in need and by provisioning qualified micro-enterprise programs designed to create jobs in poor and disadvantaged communities.

Spenco, a Division of Implus LLC, is a producer of insoles and foot care products based in Waco, TX.
