Haibike USA, the German manufacturer of ePerformance mountain bicycles, breaks new ground this week, becoming the first e-bike exhibitor at Outerbike in Moab, UT, October 2-4.

Outerbike is a consumer-facing event that offers people the opportunity to test the latest and greatest in bikes and gear.

“We're so glad to have Haibike joining the party,” said Mark Sevenoff, co-owner, Western Spirit Cycling– producers of the event. “The point of Outerbike is to try new bikes and be able to compare how they ride. E-bikes are an exciting new genre for us to include.”

Outerbike, now in its seventh year, is planning its biggest event yet. Over 50 exhibitors will attend, and registration numbers are likely to hit the event's self-imposed cap of one thousand participants.

Haibike USA, which presented its 2016 lineup of forty-four new models at Interbike earlier this month, will bring a demo fleet of Bosch-equipped XDURO3 bikes, as well as its Yamaha-powered SDURO models to Outerbike.

“E-performance mountain bikes are fun to ride and Moab is a premier destination for mountain biking,” said Ken Miner, Haibike USA director of sales. “Outerbike gives us the opportunity to showcase our 2016 product with the greater mountain biking community. While there are discussions about trail access and e-mountain bikes, we encourage everyone to test an e-bike on the trails and experience the ride.”

Outerbike will be held at the Bar M Trailhead, 13 miles west of Moab off highway 191. To provide consumers an e-bike demo experience, event organizers have identified an e-bike demo trail complete with Moab's famous red sand, slick rock and climbing, in an area adjacent to the Bar M trail system.

Moab was a town originally known as a destination playground for off-road motorcyclists and 4 x 4 enthusiasts, and thanks to their trail development, Moab became a mecca for mountain bikers in the early 1980s as well. In November of last year, the Moab Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management updated its website reminding trail users that e-bikes can be used on trails designated for motorized use. With hundreds of miles of established trails and dual track roads designated for motorized use, Moab is likely to see more e-mountain bikers as the category grows.

Winora Group CEO Susanne Puello and her husband Felix established Haibike in Germany in 1996, but its roots date back to 1914 when Susanne's great grandfather founded E. Wiener Retail Trading Company, a manufacturer of custom bicycles.

Haibike USA, established in 2015, is Haibike's North American subsidiary, exclusively selling the company's popular ePerformance collection of XDURO and SDURO electric pavement and mountain bikes. With superior Bosch and Yamaha drive systems and dynamic inverted motor placement, Haibike's ePerformance bicycles are a leader in the e-bike industry.
