Asics reported net sales of ¥221.7 billion in the six months ended June 30, up 13.4 percent from restated results* a year earlier, or 7.9 percent in currency-neutral (c-n) terms.
The maker of athletic footwear and apparel said net sales declined 0.2 percent in its native Japan, but increased 18.9 percent (11.1 percent c-n) overseas.
In the Americas, revenues grew 24.6 percent (6.1 percent c-n) to ¥71.7 billion and operating income reached ¥4.61 billion, down 27.4 percent (-38.1 percent c-n).
Sales of Sports Shoes grew 17.0 percent (10.4 percent c-n) compared to the restated results from the year ago quarter, while Sports Wear sales grew 1.1 percent (-0.4 percent c-n) and Sports Equipment declined 1.2 percent (-3.3 percent c-n).
Gross margin rose 70 basis points to 45.0 percent compared with the year earlier period.
SG&A increased 12.5 percent, but fell 30 basis points to 34.1 percent as a percentage of net sales. Operating margins declined 40 basis points to 9.6 percent.
Asics reported net income of ¥14.5 billion, up 4.8 percent from a year earlier. Net income per fully diluted share reached ¥72.3.
