Black Diamond Equipment has sponsored the launch of  mobile apps by Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC), Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC) and Utah Avalanche Center (UAC) in a bid to promote local avalanche awareness.

“Our partnerships with the CAIC, NWAC and UAC represent an opportunity for Black Diamond to give back to the global backcountry skiing community,” explains Niclas Bornling, vice president of marketing. “These mobile applications reflect our commitment to the snow safety category and will be an indispensable tool for the backcountry skier allowing us to give our core users a valuable resource wherever they are skiing.”

Each mobile application will consolidate avalanche, weather, road conditions and slope information offering their respective backcountry ski communities with an array of information including:

  • Daily avalanche advisories in the corresponding CAIC, NWAC and UAC regions
  • Daily field observations from avalanche forecasters and the community of backcountry skiers
  • Mountain weather information including forecasts, satellite loops, radar, and web cams
  • An email form to share your observations with these respective avalanche centers

“This partnership merges technology with a common goal to provide avalanche information, education and support for our steadfast community of backcountry skiers for years to come,” explains Aaron Carlson, executive director for the Friends of CAIC.
