The Clymb, the online retailer of outdoor and active lifestyle gear, apparel and adventure travel, has hired Tom Vogl as its chief marketing officer. Vogl brings years of experience in both tech and outdoor retail, working in top marketing positions for Dell, REI and Redfin.

“Joining The Clymb gives me a chance to combine my love of the outdoors with the opportunity to work for a company that's on the forefront of e-commerce innovation,” states Vogl.  “I've always been passionate about helping introduce others to outdoor activities and it’s exciting to be a part of a company making those activities more affordable and approachable.”

In his most recent role at Redfin, an online real estate brokerage, Vogl built and led the marketing division. Prior to Redfin, Vogl acted as senior vice president of marketing at REI, where he helped reduce the retailer’s reliance on print marketing and led the transition to online and mobile. After joining Dell in 1998 Vogl took his first ecommerce role, helping to launch its direct-to-consumer online business in 1999.

“As we mature as a company and increasingly focus on achieving sustainable and predictable growth, the role marketing plays in our business is becoming much more important,” states Kelly Dachtler, The Clymb’s co-founder and CEO. “Tom brings with him not only the expertise necessary to strengthen our marketing department, but also a fierce dedication to helping us fulfill our mission to increase the well being of the planet and its inhabitants by inspiring human powered adventure.”

Excited to be back in the outdoor industry, Vogl hopes to be able to spend more time outside of work volunteering and participating in non-profit activities that benefit outdoor recreation and access to public lands.

Founded in 2009 in Portland, OR by a seasoned team of outdoor and sport industry veterans, The Clymb was named one of Outside’s Best Places to Work in 2012 and 2013.
