Skis.com and sister site Snowboards.com, online snow sports specialty retailers based in Michigan, is again offering a $50 gift certificate to any newcomer who takes a ski or snowboard lesson during January and sends in a receipt. The offer is part of the retailer’s involvement in Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month.

Last year, more than 153,000 children and adults took lessons from trained instructors during January and Skis.com/Snowboards.com received over 1,000 participants in their program. 2014 marks the sixth year for Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month that is supported by national, regional and local associations and businesses in the snow sports industry. More than 300 venues in 34 states participate although programs do vary.

“Here at Skis.com and Snowboards.com we know that beginners are the future of skiing and snowboarding. We want to do everything we can to encourage people to take lessons; it’s our way of helping people get started or progress in skiing and snowboarding,” said Steve Kopitz, Founder and President of Skis.com and Snowboards.com. “This program is getting more popular every year, which is very exciting. The addition of the Bring a Friend Challenge last year was huge, it’s a great way to encourage current skiers and snowboarders to share their passion with others and get new people coming into the sports.“

The Bring a Friend Challenge rewards current participants who help newcomers sign up for lessons from professionals. Prizes include products, trips and gift certificates from Skis.com and Snowboards.com. While the Challenge rewards current participants the Skis.com/Snowboards.com promotion rewards the newcomer.

Skis.com and Snowboards.com also are sponsors for the “Why I Love to Ski or Ride Video Contest” and are providing a $500 Grand Prize for the winning video.

The program encourages skiers and snowboarders to demonstrate through video their passion for snow sports. Creativity is more important than ability level. And the contest is for non-professional videographers. Other sponsors include The North Face, SKI, Transworld Snowboarding and Warren Miller Entertainment.
