Asics America is set to debut the JB Elite, the first custom wrestling shoes from reigning Olympic and World Champion Jordan Burroughs.
As a fun anecdote, the sole profile of the shoe pays homage to the first pair of Asics shoes Jordan ever wore-an early version of the Asics Split Second. Additionally, the forefoot outsole features a translucent rubber behind which is a graphic reproduction of his tattoo and personal philosophy, Dream it Do it. Burroughs also got to decide on the color of the shoe for which he requested a gold pair and a red, white and blue pair (with a gold stripe of course) to match the Olympic uniform color.
One of the mantras I live by is all I see is gold, and these shoes are the perfect reflection of my mindset each time I enter a tournament, commented Burroughs. The overall goal of this shoe is to inspire young wrestlers, while also helping them perform at their best. It was also a priority for me to make sure the JB Elite was affordable for everyone, while also being comfortable and stylish.
From a performance standpoint, the JB Elite features traditional skin-suede overlays in high-abrasion areas for durability. In addition, a seamless TPU midfoot and ankle overlays offer a thinner more flexible fit around the foot while a thinner, screen mesh panel allows for improved breathability. The traditional lace-garage has been replaced by a small slit in the tongue where the laces can be tucked during competition, which makes the shoe less bulky.
