G-III and the National Basketball Association (NBA) have teamed up to bring back the iconic line of NBA Starter Jackets with the unveiling of the new Starter x NBA collection. The Starter Jacket, made famous in the 1980’s and 1990’s, is a joint venture between G-III Sports and NY Giants legend Carl Banks, along with Iconix Brand Group, owner of the Starter brand.
“We are excited to work with the NBA to celebrate basketball fandom and reintroduce the iconic Starter Jacket,” says Carl Banks, President of G-III Sports (a division of G-III Apparel Group). “We look forward to honoring the brand’s sports heritage and fashion tradition, while also reaching a new generation.”
The Starter Jacket was last produced in the mid-90’s and the new line of jackets will include teams such as the Oklahoma City Thunder, Brooklyn Nets and New Orleans Pelicans. The Starter x NBA collection will launch in September 2013, with a special preview for retailers, media and players at an invite-only suite at The Capitol in Houston during NBA All-Star Week February 14-16. A limited number of All-Star versions of the satin jacket will be available for sale at the NBA Store at NBA All-Star Jam Session and retail for $150.
