Michael McGuinn, the former SVP of softgoods merchandising at Sports Authority, passed away on Saturday after a long battle with cancer. McGuinn, who joined Sports Authority in 1999 after a long career in the department stores business, retired from the sporting goods retailer in January of this year.
A viewing will be held Monday, April 9, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. with a short Rosary from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at St Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St Francis of Assisi. A private burial will be held at a later date.
McGuinn was seen as a bigger-than-life personality at Sports Authority and a key player in the retailer’s expansion over the last decade. McGuinn joined the former TSA when it was based in Fort Lauderdale, FL and had approximately 225 doors. Sports Authority now has over 465 doors from the roll-up of TSA, Gart Sports, Oshman’s and Sportmart.
Prior to TSA, McGuinn spent 11 years at Parisian department stores and seven years and Macy’s.
