The Jordan Brand Air Rev introduces a new silhouette leveraging Flight Lock technology and debuts a moveable Air Zoom unit with an interchangeable Formula23 foam insert, dial lacing system, and leno weave strap.
The intent behind the Air Zoom unit is to be inserted into a pouch in the sidewall of the golfer’s trail (back) foot, providing “appropriate pressure” with every swing, while the Formula23 foam is to be used on the lead (front) foot, delivering cushioned stability.
This customizable system allows left- and right-handed golfers to use the same shoe model, swapping the Air Zoom unit and Formula23 foam to meet their needs.
“With Flight Lock, your trail foot works like a gas pedal, and your lead foot works like a brake,” said Nike, Inc. Men’s Sport Footwear Director Matt Plumb. “The containment system offers a proprioceptive feeling, a reminder to the athlete: ‘When I swing back, I want to push off the Air Zoom unit on my trail foot.'”
The dial lacing system allows golfers to customize the fit further, and the leno weave strap helps lock it in for all-day performance.
Together, the “Flight Lock system drives improved rotational velocity and clubhead speed, optimizing the ballistic energy of every shot,” said Nike in a media release.
An integrated traction pattern informed by advanced pressure mapping further promotes stability, while a waterproof synthetic upper holds up in harsh conditions.
The shoe’s performance, style and “cultural currency” also extend to Jordan Brand’s new golf apparel line, which integrates Michael Jordan’s golf silhouette with contemporary looks.
The Jordan Brand Air Rev golf shoe will be available May 14 at jordan.com and select retail partners in North America, followed by a global launch in the coming months. New Jordan Brand Golf apparel will be available this summer.
