Fleet Feet Maine Running, the two-store specialty store based out of Portland, ME, has concluded the sale of its specialty running business to Marathon Sports, a 26 location New England running specialty store brand, based in Boston, MA.  The transaction, which was finalized on April 1, 2025, aligns with Marathon Sports strategic goals and will enable the business to continue growing the brand and reach in New England.

The terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Fleet Feet Maine Running, known for its personalized service and running community support, has built a solid foundation over the past 20 years, focused on delivering the best product and customer experiences.

“After careful consideration, the decision to sell the run specialty stores in Portland and Brunswick, aligned with the company’s broader goal of continuing to support the Maine running community, scholastic Track & Field and cross country, and support and grow the 25 Maine Running employees, who will stay on with Marathon Sports,” explained company President, Founder and Owner John Rogers.

Marathon Sports said it is “committed to continuing the legacy of Fleet Feet Maine Running’s excellence and ensure a smooth transition for both employees and customers.” The acquisition will enhance Marathon Sports’ New England presence and allow it to expand its reach and strengthen its position in the New England and U.S. run specialty market.
