Garmin introduces a new series to its handheld GPS navigators—the Montana 710, Montana 710i and Montana 760i— featuring 5-inch color touchscreen displays that are glove-friendly.
The devices are for outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain biking, off-road riding, and more. The series is also compatible with multiple mounting options (sold separately) to adapt to ATVs, boats, cars, motorcycles, RVs, and other vehicle use. The series comes preloaded with TopoActive worldwide maps that show terrain contours, elevations, coastlines, rivers, landmarks, and other typography.
The Montana 710i and Montana 760i include built-in inReach technology (require subscription), which gives the user outside cell service through satellite communication. Additional features in the devices include two-way text messaging, location tracking via the 100-percent global Iridium satellite network, and, in an emergency, the ability to send an interactive SOS message to Garmin Response, a 24/7-staffed international emergency assistance coordination center.
Additional features include Satellite Imagery with direct-to-device downloads over Wi-Fi, knowing where Federal Public and Private Land Boundaries through an optional display, City Maps using preloaded City Navigator mapping, Trip Planning with the Garmin Explore smartphone app, Outdoor Maps+ (sold separately), Expanded Memory including BlueChart g3 (sold separately), with 32 GB of onboard memory, Navigation Sensors, including an altimeter for elevation data, a Barometer to monitor the weather and a three-axis electronic compass, and Multi-GNSS support with access to GPS and Galileo satellite networks.
Garmin’s Montana series has been tested to U.S. military standards (MIL-STD-810) for thermal, shock and vibration and manufactured with an IPX7 rating for water resistance. The series is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack with up to 24 hours of life in GPS mode and up to 440 hours in expedition mode. Recharge using a standard USB-C cable.
Montana 760i users can also document their trips with a built-in 8-megapixel camera. The device automatically geotags photos with coordinates to navigate back to a site.
