Crocs achieved another circularity milestone with the launch of its limited-edition Keep It Going Classic Clog. Each clog contains 25 percent post-consumer recycled material from shoes the company collected through its ‘Old Crocs. New Life’ consumer takeback program.

The brand timed the launch by announcing the milestone of achieving 25 percent bio-circular content across its Croslite material portfolio, including the Classic Clog and most of its shoe line. Crocs reported in a media release that incorporating bio-circular content “gives a second life to plant-based by-products that would have otherwise ended up as waste through material innovation.” Combined with the 25 percent post-consumer recycled content, the “Keep It Going Classic Clog” showcases the brand’s efforts in innovation through circular materials.

“I want to thank every Crocs fan who brought in or sent back their old Crocs shoes so we could explore ways to give them a new life. This type of circularity program only works when consumers engage and are willing to do some good in the world together,” said Deanna Bratter, chief sustainability officer at Crocs, Inc. “Fueled by our fans, we are making strides in our ambition to create more circular systems of production and consumption, and ultimately delivering against our commitment to bring Comfort for the Planet.”

Since the company launched its “Old Crocs. New Life” pilot program last October and expanded the program across the U.S. in May, the brand has collected worn Crocs shoes at retail locations nationwide and through its online mail-back kit.

For Crocs shoes that remained wearable, the company donated them to Soles4Souls, the international non-profit organization that works with partners to create local economic benefits in communities worldwide. For shoes that were no longer wearable, Crocs processed, sorted and deconstructed them into post-consumer recycled materials to reuse in manufacturing its “Keep It Going Classic Clog.”

Available online and in select Crocs retail stores nationwide, the Keep It Going Classic Clog features “intentional design choices that tell the story of the clog’s journey” including:

  • The clog’s color name is Moon Dust. It features an on-trend almond base with visible specs of recycled shreds created from shoes received from the ‘Old Crocs. New Life’ program.
  • Additional nods to the critical role that consumers have played in Crocs’ sustainability progress include ‘Keep It Going’ stamped on the inside of the backstrap and a similarly inspired rivet.
  • Due to their recycled nature, each limited-edition Keep it Going Classic Clog is unique, and the colors may vary slightly from those of others.
