Skullcandy, the earphones company targeting the action sports world, has agreed to become presenting sponsor of the Junior Pro Grade 4 Ron Jon Sebastian Inlet Pro and also be title sponsor of the ASP Grade 2 Skullcandy Girls Junior Pro.
The Sebastian Inlet Pro was founded in 2005 and is said to be the most prestigious professional surfing tournament ever held on the East Coast. The event has segued from being a top-tier ASP World Qualifying Series event to a premiere Junior Pro event. Junior Pro contests draw elite surfers age 20 years and younger.
A Grade 4 event offers a $20,000.00 cash purse and valuable points leading toward a berth in the World Junior Championships to be held next January in Australia.
Additionally, Skullcandy has secured title sponsorship of a Grade 2 event to be titled the Skullcandy Girls Junior Pro. This new contest is just one of two girls junior pro events now on the ASP North American schedule and offers a $5,000.00 cash purse.
“I am stoked to have Skullcandy onboard as presenting sponsor of the Ron Jon SI Pro and title sponsor of the girls event,” said SI Pro founder Mitch Varnes. “They are a solid brand with insane products, and it is great to see them step up and support surfing here on the East Coast.”
“Were not only stoked to be a part of the SI Pro and the girls event, but also to have a hand in pro surfing on the East Coast,” said Mike Carter, Skullcandys V.P. of Global Marketing. “Sebastian Inlet has a rich surfing heritage, and were psyched for the event.”
The Ron Jon Sebastian Inlet Pro Presented by Skullcandy and the Skullcandy Girls Junior Pro will be competed over a four-day window from March 11-14, 2010. The two contests are part of the Surf Fest 2010, which will be held at Sebastian Inlet from March 6-14, 2010.
