Black Diamond Wins AMGA Industry Award

Black Diamond is the 2009 recipient of the American Mountain Guides Association’s (AMGA) Industry Award. AMGA Executive Director Betsy Novak will present the award to Black Diamond at this year’s Summer Market Outdoor Retailer Show.

The Industry Award is presented annually to an outdoor company that has shown outstanding support through scholarships, products, and sponsorships of professional mountain guides. Black Diamond has partnered with the AMGA to provide educational support for the past 17 years and became a Diamond Partner in 2004. Black Diamond is the official sponsor of all AMGA Rock Guide Certification exams, helping to reduce tuition costs. Black Diamond provides one full-tuition scholarship each year for an AMGA course or exam. This scholarship provides financial support for mountain guides seeking training and certification in the United States.

“It is a great honor to present this award to Black Diamond for their significant and ongoing support of professional mountain guides in the United States. This award is a small token of our appreciation to Black Diamond for their exceptional and long-term partnership with the American Mountain Guides Association.” said Betsy Novak, Executive Director of the AMGA.

Black Diamond Wins AMGA Industry Award

Black Diamond Equipment is the 2005 recipient of the American Mountain Guides Association’s Industry Award. AMGA Executive Director Mike Alkaitis will present the award to Peter Metcalf, CEO of Black Diamond, at this August’s Outdoor Retailer Show.

“This is a wonderful honor and one that is greatly appreciated because it is in recognition of our most core value – being one with the sports we serve (and) giving back by championing them.” Metcalf said. “The AMGA, leading & representing America's professional climbing & skiing guiding community, plays an integral role in nurturing our life defining sports, hence why we are so proud.”

The Industry Award is presented annually to the outdoor company that has shown outstanding support through scholarships, products and sponsorships of professional American mountain guides. Black Diamond has partnered with the AMGA to provide product and educational support for the past eight years. In 2001, Black Diamond established a scholarship for guides pursuing AMGA certification courses and exams. The scholarship provides essential opportunities for mountain guides seeking training and certification in the United States. Black Diamond is at the highest level of AMGA Sponsorship, and has provided money to subsidize Rock Guide Exams in 2005. This financial support has helped several guides realize their goal of becoming AMGA certified.

“I am excited to present this award to Black Diamond for their consistent support of American mountain guides. This award is a small token of our appreciation to Black Diamond for their exceptional partnership with the American Mountain Guides Association, ” said Alkaitis.
