Salewa NA, the mountain sports company owned by the Oberalp Group, released its Progressive Trekking Collection ahead of the Spring/Summer 2024 season, featuring products made from natural fibers for newcomers and veteran adventurers.
The apparel combines natural fibers, including hemp and merino wool, with synthetic materials and includes the Puez Hemp/Durastretch 2/1 Hybrid Jacket and Pant, made with Salewa’s proprietary Alpine Hemp fabrics. Both the jacket and pants are suited for trekking.
The Alpine Hemp main fabric is made with a blend of hemp fibers in a hybrid woven construction blended with bio-based Sorona responsible biopolymer fibers made from corn starch for softness and thermoregulation comfort. Durastretch panels offer abrasion resistance and freedom of movement.
The jacket’s fitted elastic hood, adjustable hem and cuffs with integrated thumb loops help seal wind out; the zip-off arms transform the jacket into a short-sleeved vest/gilet. Its two double-access front pockets have separate compartments—one with top zip closure, the other with a side snap button to form hand pockets. The pants have two open hand pockets and a zippered cargo leg pocket. The lower legs zip off to make shorts. Alternatively, the leg ends are raiseable with the adjustable drawcord.
The new collection also includes the ergonomically shaped Puez 40+5L Backpack made from 210D Robic ripstop nylon and textured 330D Kobra ballistic nylon with padded split shoulder straps, adjustable back length customized fit, roll-top opening and deep offset Infinity double-zip to allow quick front, side and bottom access to all sections of the main compartment. The pack also offers side pockets, a hydration system exit, a daisy chain attachment, a security pocket, and a zippered side pocket for a bottle. The Puez water-repellent zips come with a rain cover.
Salewa’s Progressive Trekking Collection is complete with the Puez Knit Mid Powertex Boot, the brand’s first hiking boot with Salewa Alpine Hemp, designed to provide a smooth roll-off for comfort on short and extensive mountain hikes on rugged trails and varied terrain. It has dedicated trekking last, dual EVA midsoles with graded stiffness and softer heel cushioning for optimized landing. At the heart of its construction, built into the insole, is Salewa’s Edging Plate II, a thermoplastic frame that runs the length of the boot for enhanced flex and rebound with specific levels of stiffness and flex at the forefoot and heel for targeted stiffness and increased stability.
