Cervélo recalled about 2,043 model year 2022 R5 and Caledonia-5 bicycles and 182 ST31 LT replacement stems because the bike’s handlebars could slip in the stem and cause the rider to lose control.
The recall affected about 1,800 bicycles and 182 stems. In addition, about 243 bikes were sold in Canada.
Cervélo said it had received 13 reports of handlebar slipping and reported one injury from falling.
Cervélo said dealers nationwide sold the bikes and replacement stems from May 2021 through July 2022 for between $5,000 and $13,000 (bicycles) and about $300 (ST31 LT replacement stems).
Consumers are advised to stop using the two recalled models of Cervélo bikes and Cervélo replacement stems and to contact an authorized Cervélo dealer for a free repair to replace the faceplate.
Cervélo and R5 or Caledonia-5 is printed on the bike frame. The ST31 LT replacement stems were sold only in black.
