Texas Tech athletic officials announced a new partnership that designates Under Armour as the university's exclusive performance footwear and apparel outfitter. The five-year, $11 million agreement gives Under Armour the right to provide uniforms, apparel and footwear to each of Tech's 17 varsity athletic teams and more than 400 student-athletes and coaches beginning in July 2009.
In a statement, Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers said that Under Armour has been the football team's outfitter for the last three years but that other sports teams have had different contracts with various brands. Myers said Tech had been working on the agreement for several months.
The new department-wide outfitter agreement includes an annual Under Armour product allowance as well as a rights fee, marketing entitlements, event tickets and retail licensing rights.
Tech joins Utah, Maryland, South Carolina, South Florida, Auburn, Boston College and Hawaii as Under Armour's eight collegiate athletic programs in which with it has exclusive outfitter rights.
