Chamois Butt’r launched its Ultra balm, an anti-chafe balm made for demanding conditions and extreme athletic pursuits. The natural oil and beeswax-based balm is suitable for all skin areas and will not sweat off as water-based creams. One application will last all day.

“On longer rides, especially when it’s hotter than the devil or if it rains, Ultra is a game-changer,” said Steve Mathews, Chamois Butt’r founder and president. “We’ve had phenomenal positive feedback…Ultra is a completely different product than Chamois Butt’r creams. I made this balm to address these unique chafing conditions when I wanted to ride farther and reapply less often. This product gives an incredible solution for those riders looking for the greatest possible skin protection.”

Mathews started working on ingredients to create Ultra Balm in 2016, a non-petroleum-based product and finished the formula in 2019. He tested the product on himself and high-mileage athletes, including Jay Petervary, Alison Tetrick, Charon Smith, Phil Gaimon, Rebecca Rusch, Brian McCulloch, Brooke Goudy, Gordon Wadsworth, Amanda Nauman, Matt Acker. Over 50 testers provided feedback over a two-year period.

Chamois Butt’r differs by consistency, temperature stability, the amount needed, and usage instruction from the brand’s creams. The recommended application is to apply a dime-sized amount for the initial application and add more as needed—store at room temperature. The product will solidify below 65-degrees Fahrenheit, but, even as a solid, the balm warms quickly from the skin’s heat and returns to a spreadable consistency.

Chamois Butt’r creams and balms are made without chemicals, parabens, phthalates, petrolatum, or gluten, and are not animal tested. Chamois Butt’r Ultra balm packaging is recyclable and reusable. And all products manufactured by the company are made in the USA.
