Gottschalks Inc. today announced that same store sales for the month of August decreased 11.1% from the prior year.
Total sales for the four-week period decreased 13.3 percent to $37.2 million compared to $42.9 million in the same period of fiscal 2007. On a year-to-date basis, which consisted of 30 weeks, same store sales decreased 8.8% from the comparable period of fiscal 2007.
Total sales on a year-to-date basis decreased 10.2% to $296.0 million compared to $329.6 million in the same period of the prior year. Gottschalks Inc. operated one less store for the month and year-to-date periods compared to the same periods in fiscal 2007.
