The January 2009 edition of Surf Expo will open one day earlier and will close on Saturday, January 17, instead of the traditional Sunday close. Surf Expo said it elected to make this one-day shift forward with its scheduling at the request of several anchor exhibitors in the boardsports category. These exhibitors recently received word that the Action Sports Retailer show had decided to move its January show dates forward, creating a costly, rushed, and difficult transition between the Surf Expo and ASR shows.
The manufacturers affected by this date conflict represent a vital percentage of the overall beach culture business and an important draw to thousands of retailers of every description and product assortment.
Surf Expo believes its new date will effectively relieve many of the difficulties exhibitors would have faced because of ASRs scheduling decision, that it will ensure the widest participation and attendance from across our spectrum of retailers, and will ultimately be to the betterment of the entire industry given the situation.
January 4-17, 2009 (Resort, Swim, Boutique, Souvenir & Coastal Home)
January 15-17, 2009 (Surf & Skate)
September 24-26, 2009 (All categories)
In recent years, two of Surf Expos September shows have overlapped with Yom Kippur and/or Rosh Hashanah holidays. With our previous dates, this conflict, which affects retailers and manufacturers from across our show categories, would occur again in September 2009.
By moving our September date pattern to a Thursday through Saturday schedule, our show will end the day before Yom Kippur begins, and will remain consistent with the date pattern of the January show.
