Nike (#82), REI (#34) and W.L. Gore (#15) made Fortune Magazine's annual list of the the top 100 best places to work for in the U.S.
The magazine surveyed nearly 100,000 employees from 406 different companies and asked them to evaluate their employers. The top ten firms, in order, were Google, Quicken Loans, Edward Jones, Genentech, Cisco Systems, Starbucks, Qualcomm, Goldman Sachs and Methodist Hospital System.
Besides REI, Nike and W.L. Gore, other companies with ties to the retail market making the grade were Nordstrom (#36), Whole Food Markets (#16), Container Store (#20, Stew Leonard's (26), J.M. Smucker (#37), eBay (#68) and Milliken (#92).
The magazine also cited key statistics around employment. For example, for Nike, 47% of its 14,570 U.S. employees are women; 42% are minorities, and the average pay at Nike is $39,046.
