Sport Maska Inc., the hockey equipment unit of Adidas AG, recalled
1,325 facemasks in the U.S. and Canada because they failed
quality-control tests.
Some of the masks didn't meet requirements set by the Canadian Standards Association in random testing.
Sport Maska said it hasn't received any reports of injuries from the
FM5K masks, which were sold in March and April for between $30 and
$130. During testing, a hockey puck dented some of the masks.
The facemasks affected by this notice have the branding “RBK” and the
model number “5K” located on the chin cup. The facemasks were sold
separately or pre-assembled to certain hockey helmets. The FM5K
facemasks that were sold separately are black or silver in color. The
FM5K facemasks were also sold preassembled to the following hockey
helmets: a black FM5K facemask was sold preassembled to the model 4K
helmet; and a silver FM5K facemask was sold preassembled to the model
6K helmet.
Of the recalled models, 825 were sold in Canada and 500 in the U.S.
