Flywheel Sports, the fitness boutique startup, will shut down all virtual classes that are connected to its in-home bikes in March. Current Flywheel At Home customers were e-mailed a trade-in offer to swap out their $1,500 virtual Flywheel bikes for used Peloton bikes.
Peloton said the replacement bikes are refurbished but will function like new ones. Customers will need to complete the trade-in form by March 27.
The move comes after Peloton, on February 4, settled its two-year infringement litigation against Flywheel. Flywheel agreed to cease using Peloton’s patented technology.
In an e-mail to customers, Flywheel said its brick & mortar fitness centers would continue to operate. Live classes will end on March 1, but on-demand classes will continue to be offered through March 27.
Flywheel Sports still operates about 30 fitness studios in the U.S. after closing roughly a dozen in 2019.
