Ron Jon Surf Shops plans to license six shops across Canada in a deal with Filmar Corp., who also is a Canadian licensee of the popular O'Neill surfwear brand as well as the parent company to Bula Headwear.
“Canadians do know what Ron Jon is in a big way,” Ron Jon President Ed Moriarty said. “Canadians enjoy surf fashions. All the surf brands sell their products” in Canada.
The first two Canadian stores are planned for the Toronto area, with an opening possible in October and the second in 2007. They will be followed by stores in Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal and Vancouver, which are scheduled to open within the next three years.
Under the Canadian deal with Filmar, Ron Jon will receive a percentage of sales.
Ron Jon has similar licensing deals with other companies for airport stores in Miami, Orlando, Tampa and Newark, N.J., as well as a shop in Cozumel, Mexico. The company also is considering licensing deals in Cancun, Mexico, and possibly Belize.
