Boarding For Breast Cancer has just finished a record winter season, bringing in over $75,000 and reaching thousands of young people across the nation through its grassroots “Board-A-Thon” festivals and participation in leading action sports events.

B4BC's season commenced with its annual “Board-A-Thon” series of festivals, which were held at eight ski resorts across the U.S., including Copper Mountain, Colo., Liberty Mountain, Pa., Mountain Creek, N.J., Crystal Mountain, Mich., Bristol Mountain, N.Y., Mountain High Resort, Calif., Northstar-At-Tahoe, Calif. and Killington, Vt. Each resort found creative ways to raise funds in their community, in addition to selling 10,000 pink B4BC bracelets. The largest “Board-A-Thon” in the series, SG magazine's Queen of the Mountain event at Mountain High, Calif., brought out top female pros in the sport for a day of female-only competition, raising over $5,000 for B4BC. Toyota also donated a 2005 Scion, which was accessorized by pro snowboarder and B4BC founder Tina Basich and sold on eBay for $17,500, with proceeds benefiting the organization.

B4BC's mobile educational facility also educated thousands of fans in attendance at the ESPN Winter X Games, OLN's Winter Gravity Games and the US Open of Snowboarding. In addition to providing support for B4BC's onsite presence, the aforementioned events created additional fundraising opportunities: ESPN Winter X Games hosted an art exhibition and benefit concert in downtown Aspen featuring acoustic performances by recording artist G Love, pro-snowboarder Tara Dakides and surfer Jodie Nelson; OLN's Gravity Games organized an evening entitled “Chick Flicks” at Copper Mountain; and Burton Snowboards produced pink scarves launching the Burton /B4BC collaborative, Tied to the Cause, which were sold during the US Open of Snowboarding in Stratton, Vt.

“Winter 2005 was our most successful season to date in regard to the number of young persons reached through our outreach efforts and our fundraising. Clearly this would not have been possible without the support of the hosting mountains, our media partners, event sponsors and community attendees,” states Executive Director Justine Chiara. “B4BC would like to thank the following 2005 supporters: Copper Mt., Liberty Mt., Crystal Mt., Bristol Mt, Northstar-At-Tahoe, Mt. Creek, Killington Resort and Mountain High; the ESPN Winter X Games, OLN's Gravity Games, SG Queen of the Mountain and the US Open of Snowboarding; media partners, Snowboarder, Snowboarding, SG and Her Sports; and event sponsors and marketing partners OP, Billabong, Nixon, Zumiez, Bonfire, Toyota, Map Cargo, USASA, OP Girls Learn To Ride, DC Shoes, Paul Frank and Burton Snowboards.”
