Phil Dickinson, Lululemon’s SVP and global creative director and previously a 15-year Nike veteran, has passed away. The cause of his death was not disclosed.
Dickinson spearheaded Nike’s 2007 push into soccer as global creative director of football (soccer). He was also the global creative director of Nike Sportswear from 2010 to 2011 and then led the turnaround of the Umbro brand in 2011 as VP and creative director of Umbro at Nike.
In 2013 Dickinson founded the London-based design agency, Some Ideas and worked with clients including Adidas, Rapha, Diadora, Woolmark, and Richard James Savile Row.
He joined the UK-based apparel brand Superdry as creative director before joining Lululemon in 2022 in a similar role. At Lululemon, he was tasked with shaping the brand’s global creative strategy and roadmap for product design.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of our colleague and friend, Phil Dickinson,” said Calvin McDonald, CEO of Lululemon, in a media statement. “Phil was a visionary and inspiring leader who will be remembered for his positive impact on his teams and the company. We are focused on supporting his family during this difficult time and ask that others join us in respecting their privacy.”
Sun Choe, the chief product officer he reported to, mourned his passing in a LinkedIn post, noting that she hired Dickinson “to help shape our global creative strategy for product design.”
“From the moment I first met him, he was nothing short of brilliant, and I was lucky enough to realize the full extent of this through his leadership and passion for innovating,” Choe wrote in the post. “He cared so much for his team, his craft and the idea of creating infinite possibilities for the future,” Choe wrote. “I will deeply miss his humor, honesty, energy, and his ability to inspire everyone he worked with to dream big. I will remember him for how he inspired me, his team and how he created space to build the future. Phil will have a lasting impact on all of us at Lululemon, and we’ll miss him deeply.”
