The Detroit Sports Commission (DSC) appointed Xenith, a Detroit-based football helmet and equipment manufacturer, as the official title sponsor of the Prep Kickoff Classic, the premier season-opening high school football event in Michigan.
The title sponsorship is a three-year commitment between the DSC and Xenith.
Founded in 2005, the Prep Kickoff Classic was created to provide a memorable experience for players, coaches, cheerleaders, band members and fans. The showcase has embraced a team and match-up selection process emphasizing inclusion, hosting more than 80 schools from Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Through the sponsorship, Xenith will host a production facility tour, a Fowling™ tournament and a first-time high school football pep rally in Detroit’s Campus Martius Park for coaches and players from with participating Prep Kickoff Classic schools. These initiatives will further connect Xenith’s leading football helmet technology with high school athletes in Detroit and across the state through the broad reach of the Prep Kickoff Classic.
“We are thrilled to support our hometown football community as the leading sponsor of the 2017 Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic,” said Ryan Sullivan, president of Xenith. “This event is the season-opening marquee showcase and celebration of high school football in Michigan. We have a passion for protecting football athletes with cutting-edge technology and are proud to share that through this partnership with the Detroit Sports Commission.”
The 2017 Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic features 12 playoff qualifiers from last season among the 14-team, seven-game matchup that will be held at Tom Adams Field on the campus of Wayne State University, Thursday, August 24, 2017, through Saturday, August 26. The Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic will close with a matchup between Detroit Martin Luther King and Indianapolis Cathedral. King is the two-time defending Division 2 state champion while Cathedral is Indiana’s all-time winningest football program.
“The multi-year Detroit Sports Commission partnership with Xenith as the title sponsor for the Prep Kickoff Classic is an exciting step in raising the profile of the event in the local community, regionally and nationally,” said Kris Smith, DSC director. “As a member of the Rock Ventures family of companies and with their manufacturing facility located in Detroit, Xenith is a tremendous hometown partner.”
