Winnebago Industries will reportedly lay off an additional 121 employees at its Iowa facilities in Charles City and Waverly. In May, the company reported it would lay off 196 workers between its Lake Mills, Charles City and Waverly facilities in Iowa, effective June 13.

Some of the company’s most recent layoffs, which include 18 in Charles City and 77 in Waverly, are scheduled for September, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification system (WARN) of the Iowa Workforce Development. In December, 26 more layoffs are expected to occur in Charles City.

Winnebago stated in a media release that it plans to consolidate its operations in Waverly and Charles City into the facilities in Forest City and Lake Mills, and will relocate positions at the facilities that faced the most recent round of layoffs.

“This decision follows a comprehensive business assessment and reflects our proactive response to optimize our manufacturing footprint, enabling us to enhance operational efficiency and align production with consumer demand,” Sullivan wrote. “This consolidation allows Winnebago to streamline operations and focus on core manufacturing hubs in Forest City and Lake Mills, ensuring the long-term success and competitiveness of the Winnebago brand while driving enhanced focus on innovation.”

Winnebago has maintained most of its manufacturing operations in North Iowa since relocating its headquarters from Forest City, IA, to Eden Prairie, MN, in 2021.
