Wilson Sporting Goods Co., and FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, announced that they have extended their partnership for 3×3 basketball through 2028. Under the agreement, Wilson will provide the Official Game Ball for all FIBA 3×3 Official Competitions. The contract extends over the period of three Olympic Games. Wilson and FIBA entered into a strategic partnership for 3×3 in 2015.
“The Wilson Official FIBA 3×3 Game Ball has been an integral part of the tremendous growth of 3×3 basketball on the international stage and we are proud to continue our partnership in view of 3×3 entering the Summer Olympics as an official discipline for the first time in 2020 and beyond,” said FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis.
“3×3 is the largest urban sport in the world and growing at a fast rate,” said Mike Dowse, President, Wilson. “This game is exciting to play and fun to watch, and we are thrilled to be at the center of the action for many more years to come. FIBA is a tremendous partner and we look forward to working with players and teams globally to look for more ways we can enhance their play through our products and services.”
3×3 basketball, the largest urban team sport in the world, has gone from FIBA’s first official event all the way to the Olympics in just 10 years. FIBA 3×3 has a multi-million community of followers on social media and an even bigger one playing on indoor and outdoor courts in iconic locations all over the world.
The Wilson Official FIBA 3×3 Game Ball, a collaboration between the Wilson LABS, the innovation hub at Wilson, and FIBA 3×3, reflects the speed of 3×3 and enhances shooting, ball handling and grip for players of any size or skill level. The partnership will offer a special edition ball designed for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the coming months.
