West Marine, Inc. reported that net sales for the four weeks ended July 26, 2003 were $76.1 million, a 28.5% increase from net sales of $59.2 million for the same period a year ago. Comparable store net sales for the four weeks ended July 26, 2003 increased 1.0% from the same period a year ago.

Net sales for the thirty weeks ended July 26, 2003 were $420.2 million, an increase of 21.3% from net sales of $346.5 million for the same period a year ago. Comparable store net sales for the latest thirty weeks decreased 4.9% compared to the same period a year ago. Sales from 62 BoatU.S. stores acquired from Boat America in January 2003 are included in total sales, but are not reflected in comparable store sales statistics.

John Edmondson, President and CEO of West Marine said, “Weather continued to improve in July throughout the country. We anticipate August sales to continue in the low single-digit comparable store sales range. July comparable store sales by region were Southeast 2.9%, Northeast 0.8% and West Coast -1.9%.”
