Charles Redfield, named as Walmart’s chief merchandising officer last year, will leave that position on May 1 but will stay on as an adviser. The news was delivered by John Furner, CEO of Walmart’s U.S. operations, in a memo to employees on Friday, as first reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Redfield started his Walmart career as a cashier at Sam’s Club and has been with the company for 32 years. He had led the U.S. food and grocery business since 2015 prior to taking up his role as chief merchandising officer.
In February, Walmart reported strong sales during the holiday season but gave cautious guidance for the current fiscal year due to inflationary pressures.
The retailer expects sales to increase between 2.5 percent to 3 percent and U.S. sales to increase 2 percent to 2.5 percent.
