Walmart U.S. chief marketing officer Barbara Messing is reportedly stepping down as of August 30 to return to the San Francisco Bay area, according to recent media reports.

Some of her duties will be handled temporarily by former Target chief marketer Michael Francis, according to the report in Ad Age, citing an internal memo. Francis, the former Target chief marketing officer, DreamWorks chief brand officer and J.C. Penney president, who has consulted for Walmart, “has agreed to join us full time to guide the retail marketing team,” said Janey Whiteside, chief customer officer, according to the report.

Walmart is said to still be searching for a new chief marketing officer and a new direct report, a senior vice president of retail marketing to lead a newly created team under the CMO.
