Timbuk2 announced that Mike Wallenfels resigned as its CEO, but will continue to work with Timbuk2’s board of directors and senior management team through the end of March.
Timbuk2 Board Chairman Ken Pucker will act as CEO with the support of chief operating officer Tony Meneghetti and the senior management team while a search is conducted for Wallenfels’ replacement. Ken has been an investor and board member at Timbuk2 for more than seven years and will continue to drive an aggressive growth path for the brand and business.
“Mike has been a strong leader at Timbuk2,” said Ken Pucker, Timbuk2 Board Chairman. “The brand and business are bigger and better positioned for continued success than ever before due to his leadership. We are grateful for all of his hard work and passion he brought to the brand.”
Wallenfels plans to pursue personal adventures and work as an independent consultant for outdoor-related companies. He joined Timbuk2 in 2009 from Mountain Hardwear Inc., where he held the position as CEO.

I am proud of the revitalized product line, expanded marketing efforts, strengthened retailer partnerships, international expansion, and the growing retail brick-and-mortar presence for the brand,” said Wallenfels. “I truly loved working here and will especially miss all of the smart people and the fun atmosphere that make up Timbuk2 as a brand and culture.”
Best known for its customizable messenger bags, Timbuk2 has continuously manufactured in San Francisco since 1989, when bike messenger Rob Honeycutt founded the company in a garage in the city’s Mission District, Today the company makes a growing range of backpacks, camera bags, totes, and travel bags. Under Wallenfels it has opened a second store in Seattle and announced plans to open stores in Denver and Chicago this spring.
