U.S. Representative Frank Wolf, R-VA, told Bloomberg News that he will press Virginias universities to stop selling apparel and other products made in China for the same reasons Notre Dame prohibits its licensees from emblazoning its name and logo on Chinese goods.

China is a particularly bad place to do outsourcing, and the American people are totally opposed to it, Wolf told Bloomberg.

Notre Dame adopted its policy banning licensees from sourcing product from China in 2001 because the country does not permit independent labor unions. Wolf, who chairs the Commerce-Justice-Science subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, said he will lobby fellow Congressmen to also follow Notre Dames lead.

Sales of licensing collegiate products surpass  $4.0 billion business, according to data cited by the wire service.
