ViewRanger, an outdoor GPS and augmented reality developer, launched a hiking app for Apple Watch Series 2.
The smartwatch app provides turn-by-turn directions and live trip stats for outdoor routes in the U.S. and U.K., delivering a tap on the wrist to alert hikers when they reach a key point on their route. For those who hike and backpack in remote areas, a notable feature is the ability to operate offline without phone or data signals.
ViewRanger is compatible with all versions of Apple Watch when paired with an iPhone, and can also be used as a standalone app using the GPS on Apple Watch Series 2.
The app’s trail guides come from partners such as Backpacker magazine, BBC Countryfile magazine and National Park authorities.
