According to WalletHub, the top five greenest states are Vermont, New York, Oregon, Connecticut and Minnesota.

The remainder in the top-ten were Massachusetts, California, Rhode Island, South Dakota and New Hampshire.

The top-ten least green states were Louisiana, West Virginia, Kentucky, Wyoming, North Dakota, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas.

In light of Earth Day, WalletHub compared the 50 states in terms of 27 key metrics that speak to the current health of the environment and residents’ environmental-friendliness. The data set ranges from total municipal solid waste per capita to energy-efficiency score to carbon-dioxide emissions per capita.
