The Utah House approved Gov. Gary Herbert’s bill to create a state office dedicated to promoting the outdoor recreation industry in the Bee Hive state, the Associated Press reported.
The new office, which Herbert unveiled in a press conference during the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lakes City in January, would be responsible for romoting Utah’s outdoor opportunities and attracting the outdoors industry to the state. Outdoor recreation generated $12 billion in consumer spending and helped support 122,000 jobs in Utah in 2011, according to research published by Outdoor Industry Assoication, which had lobbied Herbert to create the office.
The bill, which the Utah House approved 60-10, now heads to the governor’s desk.
