An Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) backed candidate for Utah’s Fourth Congressional District announced promoting the state’s outdoor recreation and tourism industry as the third plank of his plan to create good jobs and grow Utah’s economy.
Doug Owens had previously called to eliminate unnecessary and burdensome regulations on businesses, lower America’s corporate tax rate and close loopholes that permit offshore tax havens. He is the only one of 15 Congressional candidates backed by OIA’s Political Action Committee that is not running as an incumbent.
A robust outdoor recreation and tourism industry is the key to keeping Utah’s economy strong. Recreation and tourism generate $12 billion annually in Utah through consumer spending, support more than 125,000 good local jobs and contribute $3.6 billion each year in wages and salaries as well as $856 million in state and local tax revenue.
“I understand the benefits that outdoor recreation and tourism bring to the economy of the most beautiful state in the country,” said Owens. “Utah needs a true champion in Congress who will work to protect and promote our state’s outdoor recreation economy.”
Doug has officially been endorsed by OIA in the race for Utah’s 4th District. OIA is a national association that represents more than 1,300 companies, including suppliers, manufacturers and retailers in America’s $646 billion outdoor recreation industry. Doug is the first non-incumbent candidate for Congress to earn OIA’s endorsement.
