The United States Ski Mountaineering Association (USSMA or USA Skimo) named Anthony Armstrong to the newly-created executive director position, responsible for leading the association and as it prepares for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Armstrong is the vice chairman of investment banking for Morgan Stanley. He has over three decades of experience in mergers and acquisitions.
“Ski mountaineering is an incredible sport that combines both a long, rich history with unprecedented growth,” said Armstrong. “With the inclusion of Ski Mountaineering in the 2026 Olympics and the rapid growth of our sport in the USA, USA Skimo will play a central role in supporting our athletes and continuing to work to expand recreational and racing opportunities for our community. USA Skimo has been serving the U.S. ski mountaineering community for over 15 years. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to build on the substantial work that has come before me and to lead the organization through the next phase of its growth.”
“We are ecstatic to have Anthony Armstrong as the executive director to lead the organization in the next chapter of growth and development, taking us into the Olympic era and beyond,” said Jerimy Arnold, president of USA Skimo. “Anthony has a tremendous track record, and we feel that he can bring that same success to our organization.”
“I am confident that Anthony will bring a new level of energy and professionalism to USA Skimo. The sport and our U.S. athletes will benefit from his ability to raise capital and thoughtfully grow the organization, building on the hard work of our dedicated volunteers over the last several years. The U.S. is a key geography for ski mountaineering, and I look forward to working with Anthony to leverage the expertise of our European partners to continue building the sport in our nation,” said Jim Moore, VP of the International Ski Mountaineering (ISMF) Bureau, member of the ISMF Council and member of the USA Skimo Board of Directors.
