Lamar University athletics and Under Armour announced a new partnership agreement where Under Armour will become the official sports performance outfitter of the Cardinals beginning July 1, 2019.
“We are extremely excited to join forces with Under Armour, which is one of the elite sports performance brands,” said LU Director of Athletics Marco Born. “Our football team has been aligned with Under Armour since its return but this is a great opportunity for all of our varsity programs.”
As part of the multi-year deal, the Baltimore-based brand will provide on-field and training gear for the student-athletes who compete for the Cardinals’ 17 NCAA Division I programs. Additionally, Under Armour will outfit LU’s coaches and staff. The new agreement with Under Armour includes marketing entitlement that will complement Under Armour’s brand marketing campaigns through print and venue presence within the department of athletics.
The Cardinals are coming off a momentous season for several of its programs beginning with football. Under second-year head coach Mike Schultz, the Cardinals rallied from a 1-4 start to win their final six regular season games to advance to the NCAA FCS Playoffs for the first time in program history. LU ended the season with one of the nation’s longest win streaks while posting one of the best single-season turnarounds.
The success continued on the basketball court as the LU women won their second-straight Southland Conference regular-season title, which was also a first in program history. The Cardinals were rewarded for their success by hosting an opening-round game in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament. The LU men’s basketball team followed a similar path as football. After a slow start, the Cardinals rattled off nine-straight wins to close the year with the program’s 13th 20-win season.
Lamar University joins the growing NCAA roster of Under Armour partners which includes Maryland, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, the U.S. Naval Academy, Texas Tech, Northwestern, Cincinnati, Boston College, Utah, South Carolina, Auburn, Hampton and Manhattan to name a few.
