Under Armour Founder and CEO Kevin Plank was reported by media outlets to be looking into purchasing a Baltimore-based water taxi company, Harbor Boating, with the goal of making ferries a better transportation option for citizens sharing Baltimore with the sportswear giant.
Harbor has been the city’s exclusive water taxi operator for 11 years, and Plank plans to pack the service with new boats, more stops, longer hours of operation and a 20-year-long partnership with the city of Baltimore.
There have also been reports of Plank entering talks with Uber for an on-demand water taxi service.
The Managing Partner of Plank’s private firm Sagamore Ventures, Demian Costa, said the Harbor purchase is expected to close in the next 30 days.
